And, this movie was the start of his life-long friendship with the marvelous Fred Astaire (Randy would call him "Twinkle Toes")
YAY! Looking forward for your reviews to both movies! The pool scene in MFW is probably my favorite scene ever - Cary, Randy & Irene, the people I adore all in one scene!
i am totally enjoying your posts, keep your wonderful work!
Irina.Irina Garbohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17406347181644390394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-57675916546462155372011-04-30T11:15:25.768-07:002011-04-30T11:15:25.768-07:00Thank you! I think he made quite a nice counterpart to the Russian princess ;), but it´s simply an ungrateful role. Don´t worry, the reviews of "High, Wide And Handsome" and "My Favorite Wife" will come someday - just wait and see! :)casuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02745343029575366237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-71604860096946862822011-04-24T05:29:44.852-07:002011-04-24T05:29:44.852-07:00That's a great blog and I gladly started follo...That's a great blog and I gladly started following it!
Loved your review of "Roberta", I love this movie. I agree, it is a very fun movie and has some of my favorite Irene songs.
As you may guess from my profile picture, I am a big fan of that-guy-in-the-elevator aka Randolph Scott. I think his character in Roberta was very silly, just as in Follow The Fleet and he was really typecast as a dumb handsome in many of the movies in the 30's. But anyway I think he and Irene were very cute together!
I hope to see your review to "High, Wide and Handsome" and "My favorite Wife" sometime! ;)Irina Garbohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17406347181644390394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-71350289180138639422010-11-27T08:19:18.313-08:002010-11-27T08:19:18.313-08:00In that case it will be the only time that I would...In that case it will be the only time that I would sympathize with the evil character. ;)

Thank you for another great review, Susanne. Roberta is a marvelous piece of entertainment.

Now at the top, Ms Dunne, it's time to go free-lance.:)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-75920600376514336042010-11-26T17:28:11.215-08:002010-11-26T17:28:11.215-08:00Exactly Susanne! I would have LOVED to see Irene playing an evil character even though it would be so hard for me to hate her haha but yes, it would have been amazing, totally different!! I wish she would have starred in a noir film too! Kinda Hitchcock film, at least once!!! It's the only thing I'll always regret!Renatahttp://renifilin34.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-80816127504445969362010-11-26T00:17:33.482-08:002010-11-26T00:17:33.482-08:00Hi and thanks, folks! Of course Irene is best remembered for comedy - which has multiple reasons, and is IMO not about single Dunne performances. I personally don´t prefer Irene in comedy and looking at her career as a whole, she switched a lot between different genres. It´s quite interesting that Irene was being discussed for a couple of films Bette Davis did in the end: All This And Heaven Too, Now Voyager and Mr. Skeffington for instance. The one thing I regret regarding Irene´s career is that she never got around to playing a villainess, especially because she had definite ideas how she would have done this - with a lot of sweetness! Evil à la Dunne!casuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02745343029575366237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-12817274655264560712010-11-24T13:13:16.315-08:002010-11-24T13:13:16.315-08:00"CASU"

I've seen most of Roberta on youtube (not my favorite way to watch movies but that's how it goes)and it really feels like she's moving more toward "lightness", which is what I think of as one of her defining characteristics. "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" is deservedly a classic (there's a great link to Irene singing it on youtube-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkQU-VQkhGw )Hope everything's going well for you, Susanne-the site is looking great!AKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02084216883655540363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251568927451439906.post-13850911825184566212010-11-22T15:16:59.145-08:002010-11-22T15:16:59.145-08:00the plot is silly but the movie is fantastic! It's one of my favorite musicals.

Thanks for another great review Susanne. I couldn't agree more! :)Renatahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11544487857756184453noreply@blogger.com
